Native of Cairo and prosperous businessman, pioneer of education in Jewish schools in Egypt, he explored between 1909 and 1911 the synagogues of Fostat and the cemetery of Bassatine to gather remaining Geniza fragments after Schechter. He assembled a collection of approximately 7,000 fragments, intended to remain the patrimony of the Egyptian Jewish community.
