Born in Paris, son of antique dealer Léon Helft; he opens a gallery on rue de Ponthieu with his father and brother Yvon, associated with that of his brother-in-law Paul Rosenberg (Rosenberg & Helft, London). The Paris gallery was plundered during the Second World War; he went into exile in Argentina then returned to France (honorary president of the Antique Dealers' Union). Recognized expert in silverware, he wrote precise catalogues documenting hallmarks, and left memoirs.
