Dutch economist of Jewish origin, born in Amsterdam. Pioneer of the theory of long economic cycles (~40–60 years), which he described as early as 1913 under the pseudonym « J. Fedder », preceding Kondratiev. Chief statistician in the Dutch East Indies (1919–1933), professor at Utrecht and deputy in 1937. He committed suicide with his family during the German invasion of the Netherlands in May 1940.
