Né dans une famille de conversos du nord du Portugal, il quitte le pays vers la trentaine pour vivre ouvertement en juif, d'abord à Salonique, puis en Terre sainte, où il devient l'un des grands transmetteurs de la kabbale lourianique. Auteur/compilateur de nombreux écrits kabbalistiques ; parmi les œuvres imprimées sous son nom : « Ṣemaḥ Ṣaddiq » (Korets, 1785, posthume).
