Rabbin polonais né à Cracovie en 1680 et mort à Offenbach le 16 janvier 1756, petit-fils de Josué de Cracovie, auteur des « Maginne Shelomoh », Jacob Joshua ben Ẓebi Hirsch fut grand rabbin de Lemberg à partir de 1717, puis rabbin à Berlin (1731), à Metz et enfin grand rabbin de Francfort-sur-le-Main, où la controverse entre Jacob Emden et Jonathan Eybeschütz le contraignit à quitter la ville en 1750. Il est l'auteur du « Pene Yehoshua' », novellae talmudiques publiées à Francfort (1752) et à Fürth (1766 et 1780).
