Jacob Glatstein (Yankev Glatshteyn)

Born on August 20, 1896 in Lublin, emigrated to the United States in 1914. With A. Glanz-Leyeles and N. B. Minkoff, he founded in 1920 the introspectionist movement (In Zikh) and its journal. After 1938, his work turned towards elegy in the face of the destruction of Jewish life in Europe. Major figure in 20th-century American Yiddish poetry. Died in New York in 1971.
