Né le 20 août 1896 à Lublin, émigré aux États-Unis en 1914. Avec A. Glanz-Leyeles et N. B. Minkoff, il fonda en 1920 le mouvement introspectiviste (In Zikh) et sa revue. Après 1938, son œuvre se tourne vers l'élégie face à la destruction de la vie juive en Europe. Figure majeure de la poésie yiddish américaine du XXe siècle. Mort à New York en 1971.
