Rabbin de Zante, mort sur cette île en 1634, Jacob ben Israël Ha-Lévi était originaire de Morée, en Grèce, et étudia à Salonique auprès d'Aaron Ḥaṣun avant d'être appelé au rabbinat de Zante, charge qu'il conserva jusqu'à sa mort. Il est l'auteur de responsa publiés à Venise (1614, avec des ajouts en 1632) et d'une traduction en hébreu du Coran, accompagnée d'un essai sur Mahomet et sa religion.
