Isaacs, Samuel Hillel

American calendar expert born in 1825 in Raczek, Poland, trained under Judah Bacharach and Moses Leib of Kutno, emigrated to New York on June 30, 1847. Principal of the Talmud Torah of New York in 1886-87, he collaborated with the American Jewish press and the Jerusalem monthly "Torah me-Ẓiyyon", and compiled an "Artificial Perpetual Calendar" and a "Civil and Ecclesiastical Perpetual Calendar" (New York, 1891).

Calendrier-calculateur américain ; né en 1825 à Raczek, Pologne ; éduqué sous la direction de Judah Bacharach, Moses Leib de Kutna, et autres ; émigré à New York le 30 juin 1847. Durant 1886 et 1887, il fut directeur de la Talmud Torah à New York. Isaacs a contribué des articles à la presse juive américaine, et aussi un certain nombre d'articles de nature talmudique à la « Torah me-Ẓiyyon », un périodique mensuel publié à Jérusalem, dont deux articles, « Ḥadshe ha-Shanah » et « Petaḥ 'Inim », ont été réimprimés en forme de brochure (1901-02).

Isaacs est le compilateur d'un « Artificial Perpetual Calendar » et d'un « Civil and Ecclesiastical Perpetual Calendar » (New York, 1891).
