Isaacs, Abram Samuel

American rabbi, professor and editor, born in New York on August 30, 1852. A graduate of the University of New York (bachelor's degree 1871, master's degree 1873, doctorate 1878) and of the University of Breslau, he taught Hebrew and German there from 1886 to 1895, then German literature at the higher seminary from 1895, while serving as rabbi of the B'nai Jeshurun congregation in Paterson (New Jersey) from 1896. He directed the « Jewish Messenger » from 1878 to 1903 and published notably « Moses Chaim Luzzatto » (1878) and « Stories from the Rabbis » (1894).

Rabbin américain, professeur et rédacteur en chef ; né à New York le 30 août 1852. Il reçut son éducation à l'université de New York (B.A. 1871, M.A. 1873, Ph.D. 1878) et à l'université de Breslau. Isaacs occupa des chaires d'hébreu et de langue et littérature allemandes à l'université de New York de 1886 à 1895, et a été professeur de littérature allemande à la Graduate Seminary de l'université de New York depuis 1895. Il fut prédicateur à la Synagogue de la 86e rue Est, New York, en 1886-87, et depuis 1896 est rabbin de la congrégation B'nai Jeshurun de Paterson, N. J. De 1878 à 1903 Isaacs dirigea la rédaction du "Jewish Messenger," publié à New York.
