Professeur allemand d'hébreu, né en 1515 et mort à Cologne en 1577. D'abord rabbin à Wetzlar, il se convertit au protestantisme en 1546 avant d'embrasser le catholicisme lorsqu'il fut appelé à Cologne comme professeur d'hébreu, poste qu'il occupa jusqu'à sa mort. Il rédigea en 1556 une grammaire hébraïque très diffusée, dont la dernière des cinq éditions parut à Anvers en 1570, et édita en 1555 l'ouvrage d'astrologie de Maïmonide ainsi que le commentaire de Moïse ibn Tibbon sur la « Physique » d'Aristote.
