יצחק בן יעקב הכהן

Region: Soria/Castille, puis Provence (Narbonne, Béziers)

History register · custodian, not owner

Kabbalist brothers born in Soria in Castile, they traveled through Spain and Provence in search of ancient kabbalistic traditions. Isaac elaborated a doctrine of emanation and a commentary on the Chariot of Ezekiel (taken up and completed by his student Moses of Burgos); Jacob left a commentary on the form of letters and on the Merkava. Their teaching on « left emanations » (tradition of evil) precedes the Zohar.
