La tradition rabbinique lui prête une répartie célèbre défendant la Genèse contre un sceptique, ainsi qu'une influence réelle sur son mari, qui lui transmit des traditions et se pliait à son avis en matière rituelle. Après la brouille entre Éliézer et Gamaliel, elle empêcha longtemps son mari de prier contre son frère, de peur que le ciel ne l'exauce ; le jour où elle l'oublia, Gamaliel mourut peu après.
