Rabbin américain né en 1814 à Kolin, en Bohême, dans une famille de talmudistes, et mort près de Cincinnati (Ohio) le 22 juin 1871. Formé à l'école de Moïse Sofer à Presbourg puis au collège rabbinique de Padoue sous S. D. Luzzatto, il émigre aux États-Unis après avoir été candidat malheureux au poste de rabbin de district de Cassel en 1850, et exerce successivement à Syracuse, La Nouvelle-Orléans et Cincinnati. Champion de l'orthodoxie, il fut l'un des promoteurs de la conférence rabbinique de Cleveland en 1855.
