Rabbin espagnol et chef d'école à Lucena, né en 1077, mort à Lucena en 1141, probablement originaire de Séville comme son père et son grand-père. Après le déplacement à Lucena, en 1089, du talmudiste Isaac Alfasi, il l'y suivit et étudia sous sa direction pendant quatorze ans ; peu avant sa mort en 1103, Alfasi l'ordonna rabbin et le désigna, à vingt-six ans, comme son successeur à la tête de l'académie, poste qu'il occupa pendant trente-huit ans. Son mariage fut célébré par un poème de Juda Halévi, avec qui il entretint une profonde amitié.
