Rabbin oriental des seizième et dix-septième siècles, descendant de la famille Ibn Ezra d'Espagne, formé à Salonique sous la direction de Samuel di Modena, dont il devint chef de l'école talmudique. Contraint à la fin de sa vie de se réfugier à Constantinople, il fut appelé au rabbinat de Sofia, où il mourut. Il publia notamment le « Massa' Melek » à Salonique en 1601 et l'« 'Aẓamot Yosef », commentaire sur Ḳiddushin, la même année, réédité à Berlin en 1699 et à Fürth en 1767.
