Érudit russe né en 1815, mort à Wilna le 21 octobre 1852. Instituteur privé à Wilna pendant de nombreuses années puis enseignant dans une école publique à Riga, il fut ensuite nommé par le gouvernement directeur de l'école rabbinique de Wilna. Avec S. J. Fuenn, il fonda le périodique « Pirḥe Ẓafon », consacré à l'histoire, la littérature et l'exégèse juives, dont le premier numéro parut en 1841 et le second en 1844 ; il publia aussi des études sur le livre de Job dans le « Ẓiyyon » de Jost en 1842.
