Hébraïsant chrétien suisse né à Zurich le 10 mars 1620, noyé dans la Limmat le 5 juin 1667. Formé aux langues orientales et à la théologie à Genève, Groningue et Leyde, il fut nommé professeur d'histoire ecclésiastique à l'université de Zurich en 1642, puis professeur de langues orientales et, en 1653, de rhétorique et de logique. En 1655, il devint professeur d'exégèse de l'Ancien Testament et de langues orientales à Heidelberg, avant de revenir à Zurich en 1661, où il devint par la suite recteur de l'université ; il publia de nombreux ouvrages de théologie et de philologie, notamment sur le Pentateuque samaritain et les langues sémitiques.
