Rabbin et kabbaliste né en Pologne en 1726, mort à Nikolsburg le 28 avril 1778, fils de Hirsch Horowitz, rabbin de Czortkow, et frère de Phinehas Horowitz de Francfort-sur-le-Main. Disciple du Maggid de Mezeritch, il acquit une réputation de saint qui lui valut d'être appelé comme rabbin à Nikolsburg en 1773, après avoir été rabbin de Ryczywol en Pologne, puis nommé grand rabbin de Moravie en 1775. Il y fonda une synagogue pour les adeptes du rite hassidique, qui subsista jusqu'à la fin du dix-neuvième siècle.
