Rabbin et auteur talmudique né en Pologne vers 1731, mort à Francfort-sur-le-Main le 1er juillet 1805, descendant d'une longue lignée rabbinique. Formé au Talmud par son frère aîné Schmelke, il devint rabbin de Witkowo puis de Lachovice avant d'être élu rabbin de Francfort-sur-le-Main en 1771. Cabaliste, il combattit la traduction du Pentateuque par Mendelssohn, dont il approuva l'autodafé à Wilna en 1782, et s'opposa en 1794 à la création d'une école laïque ; son œuvre principale, le « Hafla'ah », parut à Offenbach en 1786.
