Controversiste belge né à Hoogstraeten vers 1460, mort à Cologne le 21 janvier 1527. Prieur dominicain puis professeur de théologie et inquisiteur à Cologne, il protégea le juif converti Johannes Pfefferkorn et l'aida dans ses attaques contre le Talmud et contre Reuchlin, obtenant en 1509 de l'empereur Maximilien l'autorisation de confisquer les écrits juifs. Adversaire acharné de Reuchlin, il le fit citer en 1513 devant le tribunal ecclésiastique de Mayence, mais l'évêque de Spire trancha en faveur de Reuchlin le 29 mars 1514 ; l'appel de Hoogstraten auprès du pape n'obtint, en 1516, qu'un report indéfini du jugement.
