Ḥiyya, Meïr ben David

Italian Talmudist of the sixteenth century, dayyan of Venice from 1510 to 1520 under the rabbinate of Benedet ben Eliezer Acsildor. He participated in the dispute between Jacob Polak and Abraham Minz, then, after 1520, worked as a proofreader in Daniel Bomberg's printing house, notably editing the Talmud as well as responsa by Israël Isserlein and Joseph Colon.

Talmudiste italien du seizième siècle. Il fut dayyan de Venise 1510-20, durant le rabbinat de Benedet ben Eliezer Acsildor, qui l'estimait hautement. Comme Benedet, il prit part à la dispute entre Jacob Polak et Abraham Minz, étant mentionné troisième dans la liste des rabbins italiens qui exprimèrent leurs vues concernant cette dispute. Après 1520 il fut employé dans l'établissement d'imprimerie de Daniel Bomberg, étant l'un des éditeurs du Talmud. Il rendit de grands services en tant que correcteur, éditant entre autres ouvrages la "Terumat ha-Deshen" d'Israel Isserlein et les responsa de Joseph Colon. Ses propres responsa sont imprimés dans la collection de responsa de Benjamin Ze'eb.
