Exégète et critique biblique du dernier quart du neuvième siècle, né à Balkh, en Perse. Il rédigea un ouvrage opposant deux cents objections à l'origine divine de la Bible, combattu par Saadia Gaon dans un traité aujourd'hui perdu comme l'ouvrage original. Ses critiques, transmises par des citations d'auteurs postérieurs, portaient notamment sur la nécessité des sacrifices et sur une explication naturelle du passage de la mer Rouge.
