Ophtalmologue hongrois, né à Presbourg en 1823 et mort à Budapest le 11 novembre 1891. Formé à Vienne puis installé à Budapest après deux ans d'exercice à Paris, il y acquiert une réputation d'oculiste et publie plusieurs travaux sur les effets de l'alcool et de la nicotine sur la vision. De 1860 à sa mort, il fut la figure intellectuelle dirigeante des affaires juives de Hongrie, présidant la communauté juive de Pest et le congrès juif de Budapest convoqué en 1868 par le baron Joseph Eötvös, dont il était le proche conseiller.
