Fischl Hirsch est un libraire spécialisé en hébreu mort à Berlin le 5 juin 1899. Installé vers 1860 à Halberstadt, où il fonde une entreprise d'impression et d'édition juive avant de se consacrer entièrement à la vente de livres et de manuscrits hébraïques, il acquiert rapidement une vaste connaissance de cette littérature et, malgré une vue quasi nulle, voyage sans relâche pour collecter des imprimés et manuscrits précieux qu'il revend aux principales bibliothèques hébraïques d'Europe, notamment le British Museum, la Bodleian Library et la Rosenthal Library d'Amsterdam. Il s'installe vers 1885 à Francfort-sur-le-Main, puis vers 1891 à Berlin.
