Elias Heyman est un médecin suédois né à Göteborg en 1829 et mort en 1889, formé à Lund puis au Karolinska Institutet de Stockholm. Il exerce la médecine à Göteborg de 1862 à 1878, contribue à l'élaboration du « système de Göteborg » de régulation de l'alcool et fonde plusieurs institutions hygiénistes, avant d'être nommé en 1878 professeur d'hygiène au Karolinska Institutet ; il dirige à Stockholm la revue médicale Hygeia et publie notamment sur les statistiques vitales (1877), l'assainissement (1877) et la ventilation (1880), avant de mourir subitement en prononçant une conférence sur ce sujet.
