Jacob Herzfeld est un acteur et directeur de théâtre allemand né à Dessau le 3 janvier 1769 et mort à Hambourg le 24 octobre 1826. Après des études de médecine à l'université de Leipzig, il devient acteur, débutant à Vienne, puis est engagé en 1791 au théâtre de Hambourg sous la direction de Schröder, dont il devient l'adjoint en 1798 ; nommé directeur du Stadttheater en 1812, il conserve ce poste jusqu'à sa mort et doit sa réputation surtout à ses succès de gestionnaire. Il épouse en 1796 l'actrice Karoline Amalie Stegmann, née à Königsberg en 1766 et morte à Hambourg le 20 septembre 1812.
