Jacques-Simon Herz est un pianiste né à Francfort-sur-le-Main le 31 décembre 1794 et mort à Nice le 27 janvier 1880. Parti enfant pour Paris, il est admis en 1807 au Conservatoire, où il étudie le piano sous Pradher, devient un pianiste réputé et donne une série de concerts très suivis, puis se produit et enseigne quelques années en Angleterre. De retour à Paris en 1857, il est nommé professeur assistant de piano au Conservatoire, où enseigne également son frère Henri Herz ; il laisse notamment deux sonates pour violon, une sonate pour cor et une valse.
