Hermann Klaus Hugo Weyl, né à Elmshorn en 1885, doctorat à Göttingen en 1908 sous David Hilbert dont il devint le successeur en 1930. L'un des mathématiciens les plus influents du XXe siècle (théorie des groupes, relativité générale, mécanique quantique, fondements des mathématiques). Il quitte l'Allemagne en 1933 et rejoint l'Institute for Advanced Study de Princeton.
