Hermann Klaus Hugo Weyl, born in Elmshorn in 1885, doctorate at Göttingen in 1908 under David Hilbert whose successor he became in 1930. One of the most influential mathematicians of the 20th century (group theory, general relativity, quantum mechanics, foundations of mathematics). He left Germany in 1933 and joined the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton.
