Born in Blida in French Algeria, doctor in medicine and biophysics. Professor of biophysics at the faculty of medicine of Paris VI and at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He formulated in 1972 the principle of « complexity through noise », central to his theory of self-organization of the living, and pursued important philosophical and bioethical work.
