Friedrich Gustav Jacob Henle est un anatomiste allemand né à Fürth, en Bavière, le 19 juillet 1809, et mort à Göttingen le 13 mai 1885, baptisé avec ses parents dans sa ville natale. Formé à la médecine à Bonn puis à Heidelberg sous Tiedemann, où il obtient son doctorat en 1832, il devient assistant de Johannes Müller à Berlin puis privat-docent en 1837 grâce à l'appui d'Alexander von Humboldt, professeur à Zurich, puis à Heidelberg en 1844, où il succède à Tiedemann en 1849, et enfin à Göttingen à partir de 1852. On lui doit d'importantes découvertes, notamment les anses de Henle dans le rein.
