Elkan Henle est l'un des tout premiers défenseurs de l'émancipation des Juifs de Bavière, né le 7 décembre 1761 à Fürth et mort dans cette ville le 14 octobre 1833. Il publie notamment Ueber die Verbesserung des Judenthums (Offenbach, 1803), Ueber die Verfassung der Juden im Königreiche Baiern (Munich, 1812) et Die Stimme der Wahrheit in Beziehung auf den Kultus der Israeliten (Fürth, 1827).
