Phinehas Mendel Heilprin est un hébraïsant polonais né à Lublin en novembre 1801 et mort à Washington le 30 janvier 1863. Marchand de drap et de laine à Piotrków, il se réinstalle en 1842 dans le nord de la Hongrie, qu'il quitte après l'échec de la révolution de 1848 à laquelle son fils aîné Michael avait pris part, puis émigre aux États-Unis en 1859. Son œuvre principale, Teshubot be-Anshe Awen (Francfort-sur-le-Main, 1845), argumente longuement contre les réformateurs judéo-allemands sur le mariage et le divorce ; il publie aussi Sekel Ṭob, critique de l'édition du Ḳobeṣ Wikkouḥim de Geiger (Francfort, 1846), et un article de méthode critique paru à Vienne en 1864.
