Angelo Heilprin est un naturaliste, géologue et voyageur américain, fils de Michael Heilprin, né le 31 mars 1853 à Sátoraljaújhely, en Hongrie, emmené par son père aux États-Unis en 1856. Professeur de paléontologie des invertébrés et de géologie à l'Academy of Natural Sciences de Philadelphie à partir de 1880, il mène des expéditions géologiques en Floride en 1886, aux Bermudes en 1888 et au Mexique, où il gravit plusieurs volcans. En 1892, il dirige l'expédition de secours à Peary au Groenland, et explore en 1902 le cratère en activité de la montagne Pelée après l'éruption qui détruit Saint-Pierre de la Martinique.
