Ḥayyim ben Bezalel est un talmudiste allemand mort à Friedberg le jour de Chavouot 1588, aîné des quatre fils de Bezalel ben Ḥayyim et originaire de Poznań. Condisciple de Moïse Isserlès auprès de Shalom Shakna, il commence son activité littéraire à Worms, où il s'installe en 1549, et succède à son oncle Jacob ben Ḥayyim comme rabbin de la ville après la mort de celui-ci en 1563, avant de devenir rabbin de Friedberg. En 1578, mis en quarantaine par une épidémie de peste, il rédige son traité moral en cinq livres, Sefer ha-Ḥayyim (Cracovie, 1593), et mène une vive controverse avec Isserlès contre la codification du Talmud, exposée dans la préface de son Mayim Ḥayyim (Amsterdam, 1711).
