Ernest Abraham Hart est un médecin et rédacteur anglais né à Londres en 1836 et mort dans cette ville le 7 janvier 1898, formé à St George's Hospital, membre du Royal College of Surgeons en 1856. Rédacteur du Lancet à partir de 1858, il dirige le British Medical Journal à compter de 1866, tout en exerçant comme chirurgien ophtalmologiste à St Mary's Hospital dès 1864 et en présidant, à partir de 1871, le comité parlementaire de l'association médicale britannique, d'où il fait aboutir plusieurs réformes sanitaires. Publiciste engagé pour l'émancipation des Juifs, il fait paraître en 1877 The Mosaic Code et reçoit en 1893 un doctorat honorifique de l'université de Durham.
