Mark Harris est un géomètre et soldat anglais né le 15 mars 1869 et tué au combat au Bétchouanaland le 6 avril 1897, fils d'Ephraïm Harris, directeur de l'école juive de Manchester. Employé en 1896 aux travaux publics de Port Elizabeth, il rejoint ensuite les Duke of Edinburgh's Own Volunteer Rifles ; sa colonne quitte Port Elizabeth le 24 février 1897, livre bataille à Kuruman le 15 mars, puis engage un second combat à Mamssepe le 6 avril, où Harris trouve la mort.
