Born in Berlin, son of a wealthy Jewish banker, writer and musician. His first poems appeared in 1911 in the journals Pan, Der Sturm and Die Bücherei Maiandros, making him an early representative of Expressionism. Co-editor of the anthology Das neue Pathos (1913/14). Fell on the Russian front in 1915.
