Ẓebi Hirsch ha-Levi Hanau, de son nom de famille Fränkel, est un rabbin allemand né à Vienne en 1662 et mort à Gemünd, en Bavière, en 1740. Il réside longtemps à Francfort-sur-le-Main, où il aide Jaïr Ḥayyim Bacharach à préparer ses responsa Ḥawwot Ya'ir et édite les œuvres de Gershon Ashkenazi en 1699, avant de devenir en 1702 rabbin de district du Palatinat à Heidelberg puis, plus tard, rabbin d'Ansbach grâce à l'influence de son frère Elhanan. Accusé de sorcellerie en raison de ses études cabalistiques, il passe vingt-quatre ans en prison, où il rédige notamment un abrégé des cent quatre-vingt-neuf premières sections du Yoreh De'ah, avant d'être finalement libéré.
