George Edward Halford est un soldat de l'infanterie montée des volontaires impériaux de la Cité de Londres, né en 1878 et mort à Karee, près de Bloemfontein, le 15 mai 1900, pendant la guerre du Transvaal. Engagé dans les volontaires puis dans l'infanterie montée, il prend part aux combats de Paardeberg, sert dans l'escorte du général boer Cronje jusqu'à la gare de Modder River, puis participe à la grande marche sur Bloemfontein, dont les privations provoquent la fièvre qui l'emporte.
