Élie Halévy, dit Ḥalfan, est un poète et auteur hébraïsant français né à Fürth en 1760 et mort à Paris le 5 novembre 1826, père de Fromental et de Léon Halévy. Devenu chantre à Paris dès son plus jeune âge, il gagne l'estime de savants français, notamment l'orientaliste Sylvestre de Sacy, avec son premier poème, Ha-Shalom, composé pour le traité d'Amiens et chanté à la synagogue de Paris en 1801, puis fonde en 1817 l'hebdomadaire L'Israélite Français. Il publie en 1820 à Metz un manuel d'instruction religieuse, Limmude Dat u-Musar, et laisse inédits un dictionnaire hébreu-français et un essai sur les fables d'Ésope, qu'il attribue à Salomon.
