Israel Behor Haïm est un auteur serbe né à Belgrade, qui quitte sa ville en 1813 lors de l'invasion des Dahis pour s'installer à Vienne, où il édite la traduction en ladino de la Bible, des prières quotidiennes et divers manuels scolaires. Revenu vers 1838 à Belgrade, il se consacre à la littérature judéo-espagnole ; nombre de ses contes et poèmes en ladino furent détruits en 1866. Il publie notamment une traduction en ladino des Sentences de Ben Sira (Vienne, 1818) et du Ḥobot ha-Lebabot (Vienne, 1822).
