Hai ben David est dayyan puis gaon de Poumbedita de 890 à 897, mentionné dans les Halakhot d'Isaac ibn Ghayyat à propos d'un usage de Bagdad qu'il ne put abolir. Selon des sources karaïtes d'authenticité incertaine, il aurait écrit un ouvrage anti-karaïte destiné à justifier le calendrier rabbinite.
