Michael Joseph Guzikov est un musicien russe né à Shklov en 1806 et mort à Bruxelles le 21 octobre 1837, issu d'une famille de musiciens talentueux. Virtuose précoce sur plusieurs instruments, il se produit en tournée à travers la Russie, joue devant l'empereur Nicolas et l'impératrice en 1828, puis, encouragé par Lamartine rencontré à Odessa, part pour l'Europe : Vienne, où il est distingué par l'empereur et le prince Metternich, puis Prague, Dresde, Berlin, Paris et enfin Bruxelles, où il meurt d'épuisement nerveux. Il est l'inventeur du violon de paille, sur lequel il jouait avec une habileté qui soulevait partout l'enthousiasme.
