Wilhelm von Gutmann est un négociant et philanthrope autrichien né à Leipnik, en Moravie, le 18 août 1825, et mort à Vienne le 17 mai 1895. Après un premier échec commercial, il oriente son attention vers les gisements de charbon de Silésie et fonde en 1853 avec son frère David la maison Gutmann Bros., qui approvisionne en charbon les grandes usines et chemins de fer de l'empire ; il loue en 1865 des mines aux Rothschild et bâtit avec Kuffner, en 1871, la première sucrerie d'Autriche. Généreux philanthrope, il finance orphelinats et hôpitaux à Vienne et à Krems, et préside à partir de 1890 la communauté juive de Vienne.
