David von Gutmann est un négociant et philanthrope autrichien né à Leipnik, en Moravie, le 24 décembre 1834, frère de Wilhelm von Gutmann. Président de l'Israelitische Allianz de Vienne, il œuvre au secours de ses coreligionnaires persécutés en Russie en 1882, en Roumanie en 1900, puis après les pogroms de Kichinev en 1903, et préside l'hospice des pauvres juifs ainsi que les fonds scolaires du baron de Hirsch pour la Galicie. Il est fait chevalier de l'ordre de la Couronne de fer et anobli à titre héréditaire en 1879.
