Ilya Yakovlevitch Günzburg, fils de Meyer Jacob, est un sculpteur russe né à Grodno en mai 1859. Repéré en 1870 par le sculpteur Antokolski, qui l'emmène à Saint-Pétersbourg, il étudie auprès de lui puis de Ryepine et Semiradski, avant de sortir diplômé de l'Académie des beaux-arts de Saint-Pétersbourg en 1886, où il obtient la petite médaille d'or. Récompensé à l'Exposition de Paris en 1889, il expose douze œuvres à l'Exposition de Paris de 1900, où il reçoit une médaille d'or, et réalise de nombreux bustes et portraits de personnalités russes, dont Tolstoï et Tchaïkovski.
