Voyageur et auteur né en 1720, mort en 1774, grand-oncle de Heine qui le décrit dans ses Mémoires comme un aventurier et rêveur utopiste, surnommé « l'Oriental » pour ses longs voyages en terres orientales. Après avoir appris le métier d'armurier en Afrique du Nord, il fit un pèlerinage à Jérusalem où il eut une vision sur le mont Moriah, devint le chef d'une tribu de bédouins nomades, puis parcourut les cours d'Europe avant de se réfugier en Angleterre ; se prétendant initié à la Kabbale, il publia en vers français un pamphlet, « Moïse sur Mont Horeb ».
