David Gruby est un médecin français né à Neusatz (Ujvidék), en Hongrie, le 10 octobre 1810, et mort à Paris le 16 novembre 1898. Diplômé de médecine de l'université de Vienne en 1834, il s'installe à Londres puis, en 1839, à Paris, où il exerce en cabinet privé et se distingue comme pionnier de la recherche microscopique, donnant des conférences publiques très suivies sur la microscopie et la pathologie expérimentale. Praticien réputé, il fut le médecin d'Alexandre Dumas fils et de Heinrich Heine.
