Abraham Gottlieb est un ingénieur civil et entrepreneur né à Tauss, en Bohême, le 17 juin 1837, et mort à Chicago le 9 février 1894. Diplômé de l'université de Prague en 1861, il émigre en 1866 aux États-Unis et s'installe à Chicago, où il devient en 1868 ingénieur en chef de l'American Bridge Works, puis en 1877 président de la Keystone Bridge Company à Pittsburg. Revenu à Chicago en 1884, il est nommé en 1890 ingénieur en chef de la construction de l'Exposition universelle de Chicago, poste qu'il quitte en 1891.
