Léon Gordon (Yehouda Leib ben Asher) est un écrivain et poète hébraïsant russe né à Wilna le 7 décembre 1831 et mort à Saint-Pétersbourg le 16 septembre 1892. Diplômé en 1853 du séminaire rabbinique de Wilna, il enseigne l'hébreu dans les écoles gouvernementales avant d'être appelé en 1872 comme secrétaire de la Société pour la promotion de la culture parmi les Juifs de Russie à Saint-Pétersbourg. Accusé à tort d'avoir participé à l'attentat contre Alexandre II, il est emprisonné le 4 avril 1879 puis exilé avant d'être innocenté ; il codirige ensuite la revue Ha-Meliz jusqu'en 1888 et demeure le principal poète hébraïque de son temps.
